The Association congratulates Mr Goolam Vahanvati on his richly-deserved appointment as the Attorney-General of India. Mr Vahanvati has served a full term as Solicitor-General, and done so with a distinction that is remarkable by any standard but his own. We wish him all success for his term as AG, and well beyond.
Mr Vahanvati’s tenure as the Advocate-General for Maharashtra for five years was no less distinguished. He returned that office to its historical prestige, gracing it with the nobility, dignity and stature it demands. That high tradition is continued to this day by yet another of our members, Mr Ravi Kadam, the present Advocate-General for Maharashtra.
We are proud to count Mr Vahanvati as one of our own, as we are to note that this Association now has given the country more law officers than perhaps any other. The Original Side of the Bombay High Court must be doing something right.
In every single case, law officer, judge or leading counsel, Delhi’s and the country’s gain has been the Bombay High Court’s loss; and so it is with Mr Vahanvati too.
